The municipalities of Klein Barkau, Großbarkau and Honigsee in the district of Plön, together with the state capital Kiel, are exploring the possibility of establishing an inter-municipal industrial estate in the Barkauer Land region, covering a total area of approximately 89 hectares.
The planned cooperation between the municipalities and Kiel aims to create urgently needed commercial space in order to strengthen the regional economy and shape the region’s future in a sustainable manner. Such an inter-municipal partnership would be the state capital’s first economic infrastructure partnership with municipalities from the district of Plön.
The commercial area, covering approximately 89 hectares of gross floor area, will extend across the municipalities of Honigsee, Großbarkau and Klein Barkau in the district of Plön, which lie south of Kiel. The site is a short distance from the state capital and is easily accessible via the B404. The ‘Klein Barkau’ junction on the A21 will soon be completed, providing excellent access to the motorway network.

Kiel and the municipalities in the Plön district face shared challenges – particularly the need for commercial space. Inter-municipal cooperation offers us the opportunity to drive economic development not just locally, but regionally. It is a strategic investment in the future for all involved.
