More than 150 years of industrial history have shaped the northern part of Kiel. Where locomotives and engines were once built, a forward-looking business district is now taking shape in Friedrichsort with the StrandOrt Kiel project.
The state capital, Kiel, and Kiel Economic Development (KiWi) are working together to revitalise a unique industrial site, which is set to be given a new lease of life in the coming years.
For a long time, the site remained hidden from the public due to its industrial use and existing access restrictions. Many buildings, stories and traces of the past lay, so to speak, in a deep slumber – hidden behind factory gates and fences.
This year, too, there is once again an opportunity to get to know this special place up close. During the two-hour, free guided tours, visitors gain fascinating insights into the site’s eventful history, learn more about the current development and catch a glimpse of the future of StrandOrt Kiel.
The guided tours take place in small groups and offer the chance to enter an area that is not otherwise open to the public. Historical industrial heritage, a maritime atmosphere and exciting prospects for the future make the ‘StrandOrt Kiel walk ‘n’ talk’ a special experience for anyone interested in Kiel’s history and development.
We hope you enjoy the StrandOrt Kiel walk ‘n’ talk!
IMPORTANT: Please download the liability waiver, sign it and bring it with you to the tour.
