Mehr als 150 Jahre Industriegeschichte haben den Kieler Norden geprägt. Wo einst Lokomotiven und Motoren gebaut wurden, entsteht heute mit dem StrandOrt Kiel in Friedrichsort eine zukunftsweisende Wirtschaftsfläche.
The state capital, Kiel, and Kiel Economic Development (KiWi) are working together to revitalise a unique industrial site, which is set to be given a new lease of life in the coming years.
For a long time, the site remained hidden from the public due to its industrial use and existing access restrictions. Many buildings, stories and traces of the past lay, so to speak, in a deep slumber – hidden behind factory gates and fences.
This year, too, there is once again an opportunity to get to know this special place up close. During the two-hour, free guided tours, visitors gain fascinating insights into the site’s eventful history, learn more about its current development and catch a glimpse of the future of StrandOrt Kiel.
The guided tours take place in small groups and offer the chance to enter an area that is not otherwise open to the public. Historic industrial heritage, a maritime atmosphere and exciting prospects for the future make the “StrandOrt Kiel walk ‘n’ talk” a special experience for anyone interested in the history and development of Kiel.

Information on participation
- Participation is only possible following prior registration and a confirmed booking.
- The site is a private commercial and industrial area. Due to its history spanning over 150 years, there are increased risks for pedestrians compared with public roads.
- Parking is limited in the immediate vicinity.
- Punctuality is essential, as groups may only enter the site together.
- Unfortunately, photography is not permitted on the site.

Won’t be able to make it on that date?
No problem – the StrandOrt Kiel ‘walk ’n’ talk’ tours take place regularly until October.

August 28, 2026, 3.00 pm – 5.00 pm
September 5, 2026, 2.00 pm – 4.00 pm
September 25, 2026, 4.00 pm – 6.00 pm
September 27, 2026, 3.00 pm – 5.00 pm
Registration for the September dates will open from mid-August.
