Representatives from manufacturing companies in the region gathered at the Institute for Production Engineering and CIM Technology Transfer (CIMTT) at Kiel University of Applied Sciences on Wednesday 16 July for the fourth networking event to discuss smart, connected and sustainable production methods.
The aim of the event is to connect staff from manufacturing start-ups and established companies and to promote the practical transfer of knowledge. To this end, we seek a new partnership for each event. This time, the event took place in cooperation with EDIH.SH.
Our Innovation Manager, Dr. Barbara Weig, welcomed the guests and handed over to Julian Sasse, who gave the company representatives an introduction to the work of the European Digital Innovation Hub Schleswig-Holstein (EDIH.SH) and the support services available to businesses.
During the subsequent guided tour of the CIMTT’s Digital Factory, the participants had the opportunity to try out a range of cutting-edge technologies. Tim Johannsen from the Digital Learning Campus presented the latest developments, emphasised the importance of technological accessibility, and gave the group a hands-on experience of these technologies: using virtual reality headsets and an interactive tool, the group embarked on a virtual tour of the International Space Station (ISS).
Simon Hagemann from EDIH.SH then presented current research projects in the field of additive manufacturing and explained the potential of these technologies. The subsequent visit to the Digital Factory’s robotics laboratory also highlighted how closely the work on innovative solutions is aligned with real-world applications. These presentations were accompanied by interesting discussions and practical insights from the participants’ day-to-day production work.
After a brief round of introductions, the relaxed atmosphere provided an opportunity for in-depth discussions and networking.
The group of participants once again demonstrated the wealth of outstanding expertise available within Kiel’s businesses and the vast potential for joint projects. During the evening, numerous contact details were exchanged and bilateral follow-up meetings were arranged. This is why such networking events are so valuable for everyone involved.
We’re looking forward to the next produktions.netz at the end of the year!
If you would like to be added to our mailing list, please do get in touch. This series of events is aimed at staff at manufacturing start-ups and established companies, particularly those working in production or development.
In the view of Kiel's Mayor Dr. Samet Yilmaz, the announcement by Federal Minister of Defence Boris Pistorius that a Bundeswehr innovation centre for maritime systems is to be established in Kiel sends a strong signal for Kiel as a location and for the north of the country as a whole.

ISO 27001, NIS2 or DORA – many companies are familiar with the requirements, but the path to compliance is often a struggle. Instead of clear processes, Excel spreadsheets, a variety of tools and a great deal of manual work dominate. This costs time and patience, and rarely provides the necessary overview.
